With an impressive extra-long 3 inch (8 cm) pile and super dense fibers, kullaloo faux fur “Fuzzy Fur” is incredibly soft and fluffy. The high pile density keeps the backing hidden even when the fur is shaved down, making it especially suitable for fursuits and costumes, as well as plushies, throw pillows, doll hair, gnome beards, and many other creative projects.

Made from 65% acrylic and 35% polyester, Fuzzy Fur is durable, hypoallergenic, and surprisingly easy to care for. It’s machine washable on a delicate cycle and can even be tumble-dried on low heat if you don’t mind a slight change in texture. Its strong, shape-stable backing with little stretch provides stability for sewing and helps projects maintain their shape, while the fray-free edges make it great for crafting, too.

Things to keep in mind when sewing with kullaloo faux fur

Working with our Fuzzy Fur requires a few adjustments to your usual sewing routine due to its extra-dense, long pile. Follow these tips for best results:

• Needle choice: Use a denim or leather needle to handle the thick backing without breaking your needle.
• Clips vs. pins: For multiple layers of fur, fabric clips are essential for holding everything in place. If pinning just two layers with right sides together, regular pins work fine since the backing is smooth.
• Keep seam allowances small: Use a small seam allowance whenever your pattern allows. The wider the seam allowance, the more fur fibers are layered inside the seam, creating extra bulk and making thick areas harder to sew.
• Enlarge turning openings: Leave a generous turning opening for projects that need to be flipped, as the thick pile takes up extra space.
• Trim seam allowances: After sewing, trim the seam allowances individually to reduce bulk and achieve cleaner seams.
• Adjust the stitch length: Use a longer stitch length and sew slowly to navigate thick areas. The hand wheel is useful for tricky sections.
• Use a walking foot: A walking foot can help feed the layers evenly and prevent shifting.
• Combine with thinner fabrics: Pair Fuzzy Fur with lighter materials like our SHORTY minky or cotton to manage bulk.
