Materials needed for the Christmas pillow pattern:
- Thin rope or cord, max. 3/16″ (0.5 cm) thick, 3.3-4.3 ft. long (1-1.3m) depending on the motif
- Fabric for the pillow (or blanket)
- Embroidery stabilizer if your fabric is stretchy or rather thin
While you can use any fabric for your Christmas pillow, we love pairing our minky fabrics with a faux fur back. The short pile of our minky (1 mm or 1.5 mm) makes it easy to sew the rope design without it getting lost in the fabric. Plus, it’s soft and cozy – perfect for a cushion! How to sew a Christmas pillow using a single line drawing
Appliquéing a single line drawing onto fabric is simple and straightforward! First, transfer the motif to the right fabric side using a fabric marker. If the fabric is stretchy or thin, attach a stabilizer to the back. Then feed the cord through the presser foot and secure it with a zigzag stitch at the beginning of the motif. Switch to a straight stitch to sew the cord along the drawing. Finish by securing the end with a zigzag stitch.
