Free headband sewing pattern: a quick and easy sewing project under 1 hour!

Free headband sewing pattern

Creating a cozy headband to keep your ears warm with our free headband sewing pattern is a fantastic alternative for those who aren’t fond of hats. Plus, it’s also very trendy :). Unlike hats, headbands are gentler on your hairstyle, provide excellent warmth, and can be personalized to any style. When sewn from plush fabrics like our SuperSoft SHORTY minky, such a headband feels especially soft on the ears.

Sewing a headband is also a fantastic way to make use of fabric scraps from your stash! You can turn your leftover materials into something stylish and practical in no time. Its small size means you can easily create a headband using even the smallest remnants of stretchy fabric. And: headbands are also perfect as thoughtful stocking fillers or handmade Christmas gifts for friends and family.

Materials needed for the free headband sewing pattern

  • Fabric: Lightly elastic fabric for the headband, approx.12×24″ (30×60 cm) depending on head circumference and desired width
  • Bow fabric: For the bow band, about 4×6″ (10×15 cm)
  • Sewing thread matching the fabric color

The given measurements work great with most slightly elastic fabrics like our like SuperSoft SHORTY minky. We also made a version using our super stretchy mochi minky fabric and we recommend sizing down by at least 2″ (5 cm) for the circumference. The fabric should then measure about 12×22″ (30×55 cm).

Tools required

  • Sewing needle
  • Fabric marker or tailor’s chalk
  • Fabric scissors
