Craving something sweet that won’t send you to the dentist? Our free donut sewing pattern “SWEETY“ has you covered! The adorable mini donut pillow, measuring about 12 inch (30 cm), is the perfect addition to any child’s room or cozy spot on the couch. The “frosting” is ironed on using a double-sided adhesive webbing (e.g., Heat’n Bond) and sewn on with the sewing machine, while the colorful sprinkles are added with a zigzag stitch for some extra pop of color.

What’s special about the pattern: The donut is sewn with wrong sides together, so no turning is needed. This makes it perfect for both adults and kids who are new to sewing! And it’s also a very quick sewing project: you only need about 1-2 hours to sew the donut cushion.

Needed material for the mini donut pillow pattern

Since the donut cushion is sewn with wrong sides together, the raw fabric edges will stay visible. That’s why you need a fabric whose edges won’t fray. This is the case with our kullaloo SuperSoft SHORTY or the more stretchy SQUISHY, but also with any minky fabric or other fabrics like fleece, jersey knit, or felt.

• Fabric for the donut, approx. 14×28″ (35×70 cm)
• Fabric for the frosting / glaze, approx. 12×12″ (30×30 cm) (twice this size if both sides of the donut are to be decorated with frosting)
• Double-sided iron-on adhesive webbing (e.g. Heat’n Bond), approx. 12×24″ (30×60 cm) for two frostings
• Fiber fill, approx. 0.5 lbs (200 g)

We sewed the Halloween donut version from our stretchy SuperSoft SQUISHY mochi minky. The result is a super squishy donut pillow that feels just like a Squishmallow! We used the colors amber, seal brown and sand from these three bundles:
