About our kullaloo fabrics – Minky, Mochi and Fake Fur

“SuperSoft”, that is our super fluffy kullaloo plush fabric with the cuddly craving factor! SuperSoft is made of 100% polyester and is a microfiber plush. This means that it is made from particularly thin threads. This creates a silky-soft surface structure that makes the plush incomparably fluffy and soft.

Known as “Minky”, this type of plush has long been popular, especially for quilting and patchwork projects! One property of microfiber plush makes particularly unusual patchwork projects such as a rag puff quilt possible: Minky / microfiber plush does not fray, so you can sew individual fabric rectangles together left to left and cut the visible seam allowances into fringes.

Our SuperSoft is available in different types of plush. There is the short-pile plush fabric SuperSoft SHORTY with a 1.5 mm pile length, sometimes called Velboa fabric. We also offer a stretchy version of short pile plush called SuperSoft SQUISHY. As the name suggests, you may know this super stretchy fabric from the famous squishy plush toys. It is also known as Mochi fabric. The fluffiest fabric in the SuperSoft series is called SHAGGY. The pile length is 20 or 30 mm depending on the product.

We also offer a second product line for fake fur fabrics called kullaloo FANTASTIC Furs. The Fuzzy Coo faux fur is our fabric with the longest nap. Imagine one of those fluffy Highland cows with the Scottish breeze gently blowing through their long fur – that’s exactly what the 3 inch / 8 cm long faux fur looks like! Wonderfully soft and not stiff at all. It is also perfect as doll hair!

Special features in processing, tips & tricks

Thanks to its smooth back, you can easily mark pattern parts on our SuperSoft, which makes cutting easier, and the smooth surface also makes work easier when pinning and sewing. However, the plush is a bit slippery due to the fine hairs and slight elasticity, so the layers of fabric can shift slightly when sewing. That’s why you should use lots of pins and attach an embroidery stabilizer to the back of the fabric when applique. We have put together lots of helpful tips for you on pinning and sewing plush, as well as what you should keep in mind when cutting.
