Headcollars and lead ropes are part of the basic equipment of every hobby horse. You can make beautiful accessories with little use of material and mostly without sewing knowledge. It is particularly fun to combine different colours, for example by braiding the headcollar with matching ropes or coloured lead ropes that match the halter.

In our DIY instructions you will find the tutorial for a simple rope halter and a headcollar made of bag webbing, as well as two braiding techniques for decorating the halter. In addition, the hangman’s knot to create a simple lead rope made of PP or paracord ropes is explained as well as the round braiding of a lead rope.

To make these hobby horse accessories yourself, you should have 0.5-2 hours of time, depending on the accessories you choose and the type of decoration. You only need sewing skills on the sewing machine for the headcollar made from webbing. Instead you could also use glue.
