For the facial elements, you can also download matching embroidery files (for embroidery machines) or cutting files (for digital cutting machines) instead of sewing the face by hand or machine.
All pattern pieces come with 3 different seam allowance options and are printed on professional-grade paper with clear markings and precise cutting lines. The easy-to-follow, illustrated instructions are printed on the pattern sheet and can be cut out and folded into a handy booklet.

Designed with love and attention to detail, this paper pattern includes everything you need to create a cherished stuffed bear from a loved one’s garments – a beautiful way to preserve memories and upcycle clothing.
At approx. 22″ (55 cm) from head to toe, JOSHI is the perfect size for hugging and cuddling. You can use old shirts, sweaters, or dresses to sew the bear and make it extra special. For example, sew a classic collar bear using the collar of a real button-down shirt. You can also use soft fabrics like our SHORTY minky or sherpa for the bear’s body, and clothing fabrics for details like paw pads or clothing.

The printed pattern includes elastic-waist pants and a bandana as simple teddy bear clothing projects. More advanced pieces include a lined hooded jacket (or use the same pieces to sew a lined shirt without the hood) that closes with Velcro or snaps. For a truly special keepsake, use the collar and placket of an adult shirt to sew a miniature button-down shirt for the bear.
🎁 Tip: You can also use this pattern to make a birth weight bear! These are memory bears weighted to match your baby’s birth weight, often personalized with names and dates. Thanks to JOSHI’s generous size, he can also wear baby clothes – depending on fabric and fit, sizes newborn to 6 months may work!

Embroidery patterns for the memory bear
Our memory bear pattern is great for embroidery machine users! A download link is printed on the paper pattern to access free embroidery files for the bear’s face – use them instead of sewing the facial features by hand or machine. The face files fit a 4×4″ (10×10 cm) hoop and come in the following formats: DST, EDR, EXP, HUS, INF, JEF, JEF+, PCS, PES, TAP, VIP, VP3, and XXX.
The 2025 upgrade of the JOSHI teddy pattern also includes a flat, one-piece belly – perfect for adding embroidered names, dates, or special messages. You’ll find two belly shapes in the pattern (classic oval and heart), and both are also included as embroidery files for a 5×7″ (13×18 cm) hoop.
Cutting files for the bear’s face
If you have a digital cutting machine like a Cricut or Silhouette, you can download SVG cutting files for the bear’s eyes and nose. These let you create iron-on vinyl appliqués using HTV instead of sewing the face. Files are provided in .DXF, .SVG, .JPG, and .PNG formats.
