With this paper pattern, you’ll receive a printed version of our Hobby Horse sewing pattern “HOPE” – including a blanket and ear bonnet pattern as wella s instructions for making a halter. All patterns are also featured in our book My Hobby Horse & Me. For the facial elements, you can optionally download free matching embroidery files (like PES, for embroidery machines) or cutting files (like SVG, for digital cutting machines) to use instead of sewing the eyes and nostrils by hand or machine.

All pattern pieces come with 3 different seam allowance options and are printed on professional-grade paper with clear markings and precise cutting lines. The easy-to-follow, illustrated instructions are printed on the pattern sheet and can be cut out and folded into a handy booklet.

About the Hobby Horse sewing pattern “HOPE”

Hobby Horse “HOPE” is the stick horse pattern originally featured in our sewing book My Hobby Horse & Me. The design includes two nostril options – sewn-on appliqué or sewn-in 3D nostrils – as well as optional blaze shapes, fur markings, and different eye styles with templates for painting or embroidering them. To complete your horse’s look, the pattern sheet includes templates for a blanket, a Hobby Horse ear bonnet pattern, and a simple halter – everything you need to sew your own realistic stick horse.

Embroidery designs for the stick horse

A download link is printed on the paper pattern, giving you access to free embroidery files for the eyes and nostrils of the horse – so you can stitch the them instead of sewing them by hand or with a sewing machine. All embroidery files fit a 4×4″ hoop (10×10 cm)and come in the following formats: DST, EDR, EXP, HUS, INF, JEF, JEF+, PCS, PES, TAP, VIP, VP3, and XXX.

Cutting files for the stick horse’s face

If you have a digital cutting machine like a Cricut or Silhouette, you can download SVG cutting files for the eyes and nostrils of the hobby horse. These let you create iron-on vinyl patches using HTV instead of sewing the elements by hand or as sewing machine appliqués. Files are provided in .DXF, .SVG, .JPG, and .PNG formats.

The Hobby Horse sewing pattern with the accessories and the matching embroidery and cutting designs are for private use only. However, you can buy a license extension for commercial use here in our shop (you only need one license for using all).

Materials needed for the Hobby Horse:

Main fabric, approx. 25x30" (65x75 cm)
Fabric leftovers for blaze(s) and fur patches (optional)
For the mane: 1 ball of yarn
For the face: double-sided iron-on webbing (e.g. Heat’n Bond) + black felt for eyes & nostrils + white hand embroidery floss or fabric paint / acrylic marker for eye twinkles
Fiber fill, approx. 1.1 lbs (500 g)
Broomstick with a maximum diameter of 1⁄4" (3 cm) and a minimum length of 24" (60 cm)
Cord or rope to wrap around the fabric at the stick opening (PP or Paracord), approx. 20" (50 cm)
Medium-weight fusible interfacing (optional) to reinforce ears & inner muzzle or all fabric pieces
Fabric paint for shading the fur (optional)

Materials needed for the ear bonnet:

Main fabric, best are non-fraying fabrics like felt or synthetic leather, approx. 8×10" (20×25 cm)
Fabric for the ears, approx. 6×16" (15×40 cm)
Edging (optional): bias tape and/or rope, approx. 24" (60 cm) long
Decoration (optional): rhinestones, foam stickers, glitter, etc.

Materials needed for the blanket:

Fabric for front and back, approx. 16x28" (40x70 cm) per side
Bag webbing, about 1⁄2" - 1" wide (1.5-3 cm), approx. 35" long (90 cm)
D-rings or square rings, 6 pieces
Fusible interfacing (optional) for one side of the blanket, approx. 16x28" (40x70 cm)

Materials needed for the halter:

Bag webbing, best is synthetic webbing, 5⁄8" (1.5 cm) wide, approx. 60" (1.5 m) long
O-rings, 1" (2.5 cm) inner diameter, 5 pieces
Snap hook, suitable for 5⁄8" (1.5 cm) wide webbing, 1 piece

✓ With our embroidery patterns & cutting files you can:

Use the cutting file(s) privately for cutting the motif with a digital cutting machine, iron the motif onto carrier material and give that away as a gift – same for embroidered carrier material
Sell embroidered carrier material or carrier material with the cutting file motif on it in small commercial series up to 20 pieces per motif
The note "Embroidery pattern: kullaloo" or "Cutting files: kullaloo" must be added to your product description

✘ What's not permitted:

To copy, lend, resell or otherwise reproduce embroidery & cutting design files
Change individual embroidery designs / cutting files and output them as your own designs
Manufacture and sell more than 20 handmade products with ironed-on transfers or embroideries created with the file(s)
Sell iron-on transfers or embroidery patches created with the file(s)

If you would like to use purchased embroidery design files or cutting files for COMMERCIAL purposes beyond the small series, we offer a separate commercial license extension.
