There are many Hobby Horse makers out there who use their own hobby horse template. Most of those templates (called sewing patterns) are the result of endless hours of back and forth, sewing, adjusting, and re-doing alterations. Just to get the perfect shape. At least that’s how our stick pony patterns came about 🙂 We have two different Hobby Horse templates available for you:

HOLLY – our first Hobby Horse template

The first sewing pattern we launched was Hobby Horse “HOLLY”. It’s a single PDF sewing pattern for a stick horse that also includes variations for hairdressing head, wall decoration and buckle-on horse.

HOLLY also comes with embroidery designs and cutting files for the eyes and nostrils.

HOPE – the improved evolution of our HOLLY pattern

After a while, the little Hobby Horse rider in our family wanted some changes to her HOLLY horses. She demanded that the horses should be flatter, not as round as HOLLY, and also a little smaller so that jumping would be easier. And as a real Hobby Horse fan, you of course need sewn-in 3D nostrils, not just the flat, felty ones. Everything to make the horse look even more realistic! That’s how our second Hobby Horse template for Hobby Horse “HOPE” was born.

And because we also had so many ideas for accessories like fly veils, ear bonnets, rain blankets and even a stable to provide a comfortable home for the ever-growing herd of horses, we decided to put everything together in one book: “My Hobby Horse & me”

How our Hobby Horse templates compare

The Hobby Horse pattern “HOPE” from our book differs from our sewing pattern Hobby Horse “HOLLY” in 3 main ways:

• HOPE can be sewn either with sewn-on felt nostrils OR sewn-in 3D nostrils. HOLLY only offers sewn-on felt nostrils. With the sewn-in nostrils, HOPE looks a little more realistic. However, sewn-in nostrils should be shaded so that they really come into their own!
• HOPE is a pure stick horse pattern, without modifcations to hairdressing head, wall decoration & strap-on horse like HOLLY.
• On the other hand, HOPE is significantly slimmer, a little smaller overall and more delicate than HOLLY. HOPE is therefore more suitable for actual hobby horsing, as it is easier to ride and jump with. In addition, HOPE looks a bit more “real” because it is not so round and therefore looks less childish. HOPE comes much closer to the original Finnish Hobby Horses than HOLLY.
